If you are a Beginner or Advanced Rider working on Western Pleasure, Western Dressage, Roping, or Trail Riding or Whatever Your Discipline, Make Sure You're Ready to Go with Our Policies!
Rules & Regulations/Riding Lessons - At Your Location or Barn
If rules and regulations are not followed we will need to reschedule your lesson to another date.
If the trainer has driven to your location, you are not prepared and the lesson needs to be rescheduled there is a $20.00 fee to compensate for time.
Please be prepared so everything goes smoothly and you can truly enjoy your lesson.
All students must:
Wear the correct clothes.
NO SHORTS
English riders can wear jodhpurs or breeches. Western riders can wear jeans.
Wear proper boots with a HEEL. If you are not fully committed, no need to purchase special boots, just ensure you have a boot with a HEEL. Once committed, you can proceed to purchasing the appropriate boots.
English riders can wear English riding boots.
Western riders can wear Cowgirl, Cowboy boots.
NO SNEAKERS - No One Around Horses Should Be in FLIP FLOPS!
A pair of gloves is a good idea too because they prevent blisters.
A safety helmet of your own. This should be fitted to you. Calabasas Saddlery for example will actually fit you with a proper helmet!
Be honest about your riding ability so the instructor can teach you the correct lesson.
Be on TIME! The instructor is on a strict schedule and if he has to wait for you to be ready unfortunately your time will be cut short.
Have your horse tacked and ready to go by your lesson time. If you do not know how to tack your horse, inform the instructor and he will arrive early and do a tack class with you for a small fee ($20.00)
Ensure your horse and you are compatible! You should be taking lessons on a horse that is completely broke, not spooky and ready to work at YOUR level. If you are unsure, you can inform the instructor and they can come out and test/observe your horse for a small fee to ensure your lessons are optimal with the horse you want to work with.
Go to the bathroom before your lesson, have a water bottle ready for yourself and sun glasses/sunscreen ready and applied so you do not have to break in the middle of your lesson.
Your instructor will adjust your stirrups and girth to ensure you are ready to ride safely.
Listen to your instructor and follow his instructions.
Ask question and don't be afraid if they seem simple to you! You deserve to have all your questions answered.
You will canter/lope when the time is right. There is no need to do this right away, in fact, it takes time if you are new to riding, Rome was not conquered in one day!
Parents should be seen and not heard during lessons!
Allow students to participate in their lesson without guiding them from the sidelines. Your trainer is fully credentialed to TEACH your child to ride safely. Allow him to do so!
If you feel scared about doing something, let your instructor know. He will help you work through your fear and keep all of your riding activities fun and safe.
At the end of your lesson, don’t just hop off and hand your horse over to a barn worker.
Run up the stirrups properly, loosen the girth, show your horsemanship!
Un-tacking and grooming will help you build a better relationship with your horse.
If it’s not your lesson, don’t bug your instructor by asking her lots of questions.
Try not to interrupt someone else’s lesson unless it’s an emergency.
Thank you for reading these policies, now let's go have some fun!
